Cartoon Network: Rebrand Reel [HD]

Competition brief for YCN (student.aisforawards.org/)
My first attempt at character rigging.. Five network IDs (Float, Tower, Beam, Glide, Zoom) plus some examples of how the brand could extend to different broadcast elements such as 'up next' bumpers and lower thirds.

The spots are based around the characters developing fun scenarios for themselves with nothing but their imaginations and cardboard.. anything is possible! I remember making everything I could think of out of card and tape when I was young and think creativity should be encouraged from an early age and to use Cartoon Network as a catalyst is ideal.

Please take a look at the 'making of' video and visit the project blog to see in depth developments through the process of design, construction and animation: mattfrodshamcartoonnetwork.blogspot.com/

All 3D work was completed in Cinema 4D and composited in After Effects.

Quick breakdown of design, production and post. There's no audio except for what was output with original motion tests (so watch out if your speakers are on loud half way through), but thought some might find it interesting to see everything thrown into a chunk of video. The blog has more indepth explanation but I figured this would be easier to flick through.

Let me know what you think - I'll try and do more comprehensive ones in future and explain what & why etc.

Cheers Matt

Incirrina. Of The Aglare Void

This creature has the complex fate but she finally came unscrewed. She’s raw, synthetic and diffident. She’s afraid that she’s doing worse than she really can in the radiant emptiness full of stars, snowflakes and colored smoke. She doesn’t need anything and wants nothing. Let's leave her alone.

Macro + Case Study

For our Winter R&D project, we wanted to make a skate film. Our goal was to create a series of impossible yet photo-real shots, putting us right in the middle of the action. The real trick was developing a process that would allow us to create these shots with a small team of artists (instead of the usual small army). Advanced Lighting Techniques with Chris Morris

We are at Critical Mass again, this time talking with Chris Morris. He gives a talk about advance light in 3D with contrast. Chris explains how sometimes lighting gets left behind in our Three Dimensional world, we spend so much time saying look at my wonderful polygons, that we don't take the time to light our subject properly to put the finishing touch on our projects. This is a must watch.

...I apologize for one minute forty seconds into the presentation, we ran into an issue with our video.

Spherikal

This is a small animation a did as an exercise to experiment and explore all the graphical possibilities of representing the idea of the SPHERE, always thinking in searching Gestalt and form. Its all done in 3d, but i was more interested in the graphical interest, flatten the surfaces, and only two colors, why more. The most difficult was to achieve the transitions between the different type of representation of the sphere, the morphing and metamorphosing.

For the description of the project, all these frames plus the frames from the scenes that weren't included, visit - behance.net/gallery/Spherikal/3565597

It was all done in Cinema 4d R13, all with the Mograph module. Comositing and post in After Effects
