Beretta presents: HUMAN TECHNOLOGY

Human Technology is an artistic short movie celebrating the uniqueness and the distinction of every Beretta premium gun. This movie by Ancarani Studio, under the creative direction of Paola Manfrin, reveals through the minutia of the manufacturing process, the genesis of a luxury Beretta shotgun. A poetic journey through sterile robotic rooms is blended with five centuries of Beretta’s history, culminating in the final assembly by the gunsmith, ever the wise guardian of the art of manufacturing.

Satoshi Kon - Editing Space & Time

Four years after his passing, we still haven't quite caught up to Satoshi Kon, one of the great visionaries of modern film. In just four features and one TV series, he developed a unique style of editing that distorted and warped space and time. Join me in honoring the greatest Japanese animator not named Miyazaki.

Michael Bay - What is Bayhem?

There are filmmakers we love and then there’s Michael Bay. Even if you dislike him (as I do), Bay has something valuable to teach us about visual perception. This is an exploration of “Bayhem” — his style of camera movement, composition and editing that creates something overblown, dynamic and distinct.

'Reely and Truly' - a short film on photography (Director's Cut)

‘Reely and Truly’ is a new documentary from director Tyrone Lebon. The 30-minute film is an visual poem on contemporary photographers and their practices.

Lebon’s intention is for the film to be a photographic object in itself. It is shot on all available celluloid formats (including 65mm, 35mm, super 16mm, 16mm, and super 8mm). The film has a free structure with an unconventional narrative, taking on the form of a visual poem.

This film is part of the ongoing ‘Reely and Truly’ project which will culminate in a book of photographs, texts and films about the practice of over 30 contemporary photographers to be published by DoBeDo in 2015. This 30 minute film is an extended trailer for that project.

Featuring (in order of appearance): Mark Lebon, Dick Jewell, Juergen Teller, Jack Webb, Sean Vegezzi, Jason Evans, Nigel Shafran, Fumiko Imano, Charchakaj Waikawee, Lina Scheynius, Nobuyoshi Araki, Takashi Homma, Ari Marcopoulos, Jill Freedman, Nick Sethi, Asger Carlsen, Arne Svenson, Petra Collins, Tim Barber, Renee Cox, Mario Sorrenti, and Lele Saveri.

The book is availaible for pre-order at DoBeDo.Co.uk

Behind the Scenes on 'Gone Girl'

Hollywood blockbuster Gone Girl was edited entirely in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. The workflow used by David Fincher and his post-production team offers insights into the evolution of filmmaking today. Working interactively, with editorial and visual effects tightly linked, the team was able to shape the 6K source footage into a cinematic masterpiece. Hear how they did it. When Water Flows Uphill

http://www.sciencefriday.com
In the Leidenfrost Effect, a water droplet will float on a layer of its own vapor if heated to certain temperature. This common cooking phenomenon takes center stage in a series of playful experiments by physicists at the University of Bath, who discovered new and fun means to manipulate the movement of water.

Researchers test ridged surfaces in order to control the movements of hot water.

Mona Lisa - Why so Famous?

The Mona Lisa is widely considered the greatest portrait of all time. It appears in countless advertisements, has inspired poetry, sculpture, forgeries, and theft. But seriously, why? The painting is small, only 30 x 21 inches, the color is somber, the background seems desolate and eerie, and the subject isn't anyone historically significant. So, what is all the brouhaha about? Is it really all about her mystifying gaze and a quirkly smile? Well, let's take a closer look.
